The Bolutek BTD-6610, equipped with an extremely-powerful, highly-sensitive Bluetooth transmitter, can achieve an unparalleled range of up to 30 km! With a 7 dBi omni-directional antenna, the extended range is up to 2 km, and with the 18 dBi directional antenna, it is up to 10 km. Additionally, given its high sensitivity, it can extend the range of weaker Bluetooth devices like cell phones and headsets by hundreds of meters. With most other devices only capable of obtaining a range of 10 meters or less, no other Bluetooth device comes even close. Plus, this long-range Bluetooth transmitter connects to any computer with a Bluetooth connection and can handle virtually any Bluetooth profile available. Uses include standard data, streaming data, headsets communication (like Skype calls), and stereo headphone communication, amongst others.

With the Bolutek BTD-6610 you can extend the range of communication from your PC to other Bluetooth devices.

The Bolutek BTD-6610's Bluetooth radio receiver is many times more sensitive than the average Bluetooth device. You can expect about a 10 times more range than with other standard Bluetooth dongles.

The Bolutek Host BTD-6610 is a standard USB Bluetooth adapter.

Some older Windows systems do not have Bluetooth software pre-installed. We do not provide Windows software. If you have an older Windows machine, you will need to purchase a Bluetooth driver for Windows 2000 or older XP.

Cellphone Connected to the Internet

Connect your cell phone (or PDA) via Bluetooth to the Internet. It is fairly easy to make the LAN profile available on you home machine (Linux, OSX or Windows). Then have you cell phone use the LAN profile to access the Internet through your PC. In contrast to WiFi (802.11), Bluetooth uses much less battery power than WiFi, which can drain your Cell Phone's battery in as little as an hour of use. And, you can sync your phone and PDA this way too from further away.

Q1: What is the range of the BTD-6610?

A1:

The range of the Bolutek BTD-6610 products depends on 3 things:

1. The Antenna attached to the BTD-6610 product
2. The other Bluetooth device you are wirelessly communicating with
3. The environment you are communicating in

Generally speaking we give range figures using 2 BTD-6610 devices with the same antenna talking to each other outdoors in a line of sight environment, for example: on the beach.

The standard range you can expect with the included antenna is about 1km range. The largest rubber duck antenna (9dBi) gives you 2km range. This is about the limit of the FCC certification for omni-directional antennas. Using directional antennas we can reach a range of about 10km within the FCC regulations using two 18dBi directional antennas.

If you use one BTD-6610 and one other device with a weaker radio you get less range. With a cell phone or PDA you can expect about 100m range depending on the antenna. With a good directional antenna you get about 1km range maybe more communicating with a cell phone.

Bluetooth headsets attached to your ear will have a more limited range. Bluetooth radio waves do not pass through your head, and in fact don't even get through the outer layers of the skin. If you turn your head so that your head is between the antennas, your head will reduce the range.

Stereo Bluetooth headsets are better since right and left ears are connected, which helps the reception even if the antenna is only on one of the ear muffs.

Anything between the transmitters will reduce signal strength. A wall will reduce the range. The range reductions will depend on the wall's material and thickness.

Bluetooth radio waves bounce off walls too. A staircase between stories allows the signal to go from one level to another, even in a steel reinforce concrete building.
